Verloren Verleden (Past Lost in Dutch) is a collaborative musical project by Anneke van Giersbergen and Icelandic indie-folk Árstíðir.
The album brings together ten repaginate classic songs. The idea came when Anneke followed the band Pain of Salvation on tour and met Árstíðir in April 2013.
"The moment I heard the guys of Árstíðir do a soundcheck, when we were on tour together with Pain of Salvation, I knew I wanted to work with them on something acoustic. It took some years, but here we are!" (Anneke on Facebook)

But the theme of what would be the album came two years earlier, in a presentation on a TV show. Anneke sang the aria "When I Am Laid on Earth" from Dido and Aeneas van Henry Purcell in the Dutch program De Tiende van Tijl, absolutely surprising they audience. Years later, in a poll conducted by the same program on the best performances that they showed, Anneke's presentation was the winner with large vantage. Her victory took her to the program again, this time already announcing the future collaborative album with Árstíðir when performing the aria "Russian Lullaby" by Irving Berlin.

After some rehearsals and initial arrangements by internet and a visit for a weekend of Árstíðir in the Netherlands, the recordings of the vocals were taken on a visit of Anneke to Iceland.
"Recorded vocals for 10 songs in 3 days in 5 different languages, and saw the Northern lights as a bonus. ❤ My week is made!" (Anneke via Facebook)
The languages were Dutch, Icelandic, German, French and English, which were then known after the release of the songs chosen for the project. Among them were When I Am the Laid on Earth and Russian Lullaby, and a old icelandic hymn that became the Árstíðir famous on the Internet after a video that went viral, reaching more than 4 million views, where the band intoned it the capella in a German train station, resulting in an incredibly angelic sound.

To publicize the album, Anneke and Árstíðir scheduled a tour throughout the month of March by Dutch theaters.
Verloren Verleden was launched on February 12th and is available to stream on Spotify and Bandcamp, and for purchase in the webshop of Anneke which incidentally delivery in Brazil!
