Anna Maria van Giersbergen, artistically known as Anneke van Giersbergen, is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and Dutch pianist who became worldwide known as the lead singer and songwriter of the Dutch progressive rock band / Alternative The Gathering, between 1995 and 2007. Currently, she is on solo career, before on the project called Agua de Annique and later using your own name. Anneke also worked with Devin Townsend, Within Temptation, Anathema, Lawn, Farmer Boys, Ayreon, Napalm Death, Moonspell, Novembers Doom, Globus and Giant Squid, and many other artists and projects.

 

Anneke was born in the small town called Sint Michielsgestel, Netherlands. She started to sing when she was 7 years old, when he participated in a music contest. With 12 years old, she was already part of the school choir where she studied, that toured in France. Later, she began to have singing lessons and joined his first band. After this first experience, Anneke joined several bands. In 1992, she founded the duet "Bad Breath" with guitarist and singer Deniz Cagdas (Spencer Edgards), with a predominance of rhythms as blues, jazz, folk and funk.

 

In 1994 she was invited to join The Gathering through a friend who knew the band. Your musical "feeling" fits perfectly in the changes that the band wanted to perform and the result was very satisfactory.

 

After years of success, in June 5th 2007, Anneke announced his departure from The Gathering, in order to pursue other projects, has more time with family and starts her new project, called Agua de Annique. In 2010, she decided to go in a solo career, finally. 

 

Anneke always had a prominent position among the women of rock and heavy metal vocalists. 

Until today, she is one of the women pioneers in this music scene and one of the largest and most versatile singers, flirting between heavy and acoustic songs with ease and unique genius.
